The wave crashed down hard, breaking my chest in two,
taking with it my stubborn dreams of you.
Exhausted from the pull of the high and low tides,
I scrambled for footing trying to hold my head high.

Memories of heaven and hell flashed before my eyes
as un-faced lovers became liars without any ties.

I tried yelling out, but my cries were just muffled
by the protective wall of my guarded shuffle.

Too strong to fall down and too weak to get up,
I laid in silence waiting, about to give up.

Hiding my broken body and my drowning soul,
trying hard to find peace and make sense of it all.

As I floated without direction, I felt life start to pull
and remembered that I was relentless and hardly a fool.

No longer would I succ*mb to my pain and despair,
for there were still people who knew how to love and play fair.

The surf finally subsided and I found dry ground,
upon my own shoulders where its always safe and sound.
